Rosxtta Fields Presents His Curatorial Bookmark with Ode to the Anomalous

by Tranae Cearnal

This past First Friday, February 6, Southside Contemporary Art Gallery presented Ode to the Anomalous, a group exhibition and curatorial bookmark by owner and curator Ra-Twoine “Rosxtta” Fields.

Originally written as a poem, Ode to the Anomalous grew into an exhibition rooted in difference, irregularity, and the freedom of not fitting neatly into expectations. Fields describes the show as a pause in his curatorial journey. “I see this exhibition as a curatorial bookmark, a moment to acknowledge where I am before moving forward,” he shared.

Rather than forcing a single interpretation, the exhibition invites viewers to sit with work that exists outside of dominant narratives. “The anomalous isn’t something to fix,” Fields explained. “It’s something to sit with, learn from, and protect.” That philosophy reflects the broader mission of Southside Contemporary Art Gallery as a space that values process, experimentation, and honest dialogue between artists and community.

The exhibit features several artists Fields has worked with over time, including Richmond-born artist James Williams III.
