RICHMOND, Va. — Every month, I sit down and do my damndest to document the energy that surrounds RVA Rap Elite, spotlighting the emcees, moments, and performances that keep Richmond's Hip Hop culture thriving. Each time we do, the present episode crescendos the last and this past Sunday was no different.
Episode 67 of RVA Rap Elite closed out the Vagabond era, and it did so with the kind of tension that has come to define the league's biggest nights. Whether it was the production, the moment, or the knowledge that this was the final show at Vagabond, the energy in the room felt differently from the start.
Five major portions of the night — the 30 Emcee Cypher, the Sound Clash, the 10 year anniversary set from Michael Millions and Radio B, a Live Cypher featuring emcees like Skinnyy Hendrixx and the Open Beat Session, a segment Radio describes as the you really shoulda been here moment — equal parts underrated and overdue. This was the night to not miss.
Though the cypher line up was thin, the caliber of emcees saturated the space: BDM, Blaq Sage, Cin the Ciege, Django Starr, Kid Deceptive, Tre Awthenicc, and YRI, all put in work.
During the Cypher, emcees leaned into that Richmond (N.Y.) State of Mind. The beat selections, amongst the performers, got instant approval from the crowd. Each record played like an instant classic, from BDM pouring her everything into Beanie Sigel's I Can Feel It in the Air record, to Tre Awethenicc unleashing nonstop cadences and flows over Puff Daddy's All About the Benjamins track. The caliber of the beats matched the intensity of the lyricism. These featured emcees did not come to play around.
When the scores came in, the night repeated a pattern from Episode 66: a sudden death. This time BDM and Tre Awthenicc, both locking in a 30.0. BDM, who would return later for the SoundClash, took her cypher set into sudden death, and lost it. Tre Awthenicc walked away with his 12th hoodie, a number that is starting to make the question unavoidably inevitable: is Tre the GOAT of the league?
SoundClash
If the cypher belonged to Tre, the SoundClash belonged to BDM. Matched against Super Dope Haskins, she delivered what she's become known for — command of the stage. By the end, the audiences’ verdict felt less like a scoring decision and more like a formality. It was a clear win.

TENTHSNDHRS 10 Years Later
Then came the part of the night that wasn't a competition at all. Michael Millions and Radio B celebrated the 10-year anniversary of their joint album, TENTHSNDHRS. The duo performed several songs from the project, which they refered to as "The Strike Tape.” It was written and recorded during a work stoppage that gave them the time to create the project together.
Their chemistry, stage banter, and commanding presence kept the energy high, reminding the crowd why the project still resonates a decade later.
And if that wasn’t enough, a featured cypher featuring Reppa Ton, Skinnyy Hendrixx, Skuzzii and Rah Skrilla took an already high night higher.
Open Beat Cypher
The night closed the way it often does, loose, communal, unscripted. Emcees including Nickelus F and Illa Styles repeatedly controlled the mic over a rotating set of beats, treating the segment as what it's always been: a place to sharpen, not to prove.
For the final show at Vagabond, Episode 67 definitely delivered. The season produced more than one moment worth remembering, and for the artist involved, it produced a safe and honest way to flex.
