Zuri; Nu Age Park Jam Might Not Return

Preview

Editor’s Note: I’ve been following Zuri’s work closely since 2024’s Flag on the Moon, and while I wasn’t able to attend this Nu Age Park Jam, I wanted to personally highlight her presence in Richmond’s scene. Big thanks to Anais for covering the night — what follows is her account of the evening’s energy and Zuri’s set. - Eric Jackson

“Nu Age Park Jam” took place at Monroe Park, Friday May 9th. The vibes were all welcoming, there was lots of shatter and passing of blunts. Whoever met that day, I guarantee you that they’re an artist themselves. I enjoyed it because there were just so many other artists hanging out and sharing themselves with other people at the show. The show included vinyl sets, open mic and an open cypher. Seven was the hostess with the mostest that exuded the exact energy the crowd needed. There were a plethora of artists on the bill and they all did their thing collectively while performing their music effortlessly. Melathono was up first, and he showed the crowd his confidence in himself as a performer and artist. Later on at the show, Zuri commanded the stage with her tight bars and followable flows. She even had the crowd participate by saying a few lines from her unreleased song “Knocking On Heavens Door.”

She thought her performance was great as did I! Zuri strives to work extremely hard on performing and showing the world her work so it’s only right.

She enjoyed relaying two songs to the crowd which were “As the World Burns” which is currently out and “Knocking On Heavens Door” which is unreleased. As a member of the crowd, “Knocking On Heavens Door” was my personal favorite and I genuinely can’t wait for it to be released Zuri says, what she’s currently working on as a human is finding balance for herself and in the World.

As a creator, Zuri is letting go of being a perfectionist. She wants everything to be clean, cut and polished but sometimes that can get in the way of her getting to the nitty gritty things.

As an artist she is currently working on diving into DJ’ing and particularly spinning vinyl.

Zuri playfully laughed and said that she doesn’t know what we can expect from her just yet. Hopefully though she says, the track “Politicking” is in the foreseeable future being that she already has a video for the track.

Although Zuri stated that this will be the last event like this at Monroe Park for a while, the idea is solidified and genuinely brings all types of artists from Richmond together for a little jam session. The city of Richmond needs genuine community and gatherings of like minded people to feed that. It takes a village. We hope that Zuri does decide to continue on with these types of shows and vibes eventually!
