Richmond Food Pop-Ups You Missed Recently: And Why You Shouldn't Miss Them Again
Pizzeria Delores has popped up inside Susie’s Delicatessen — JackyFlav’s Sicilian-style pizza is the talk of Richmond. (Eye of a Giant)
If you’re one of those people who delights in some bomb ass food, Richmond has been clocking in with the food pop-ups recently. From burgers to chicken to pizza…here's what you missed and who to follow for the next one.
Pizzeria Delores
The first time we attempted to snag this one-of-a-kind pizza, we were met by people coming out of line to let us know they were all sold out. We knew we had to run this back and try again. This time, we weren’t left disappointed. The pop-up, located at Susie’s Delicassen, offered one-of-a-kind Sicilian-style pizza. You know, with the cheese before the sauce, a thick buttery crust with a perfect crunch around the edges. We decided on the Double Pepperoni with fresh tomatoes and ACTUAL double pepperoni. The tiny cupped-shaped slices of heaven came piping out the oven hot and crisped just right. Served with a side of homemade ranch (with just the right amount of fresh herbs), you’ll not want to miss your next chance to cop one.

Kwam’s Chicken Project
We’ve been longtime fans of Kwam’s famous fried tenders. But this week, Kwam did a mid work-week pop-up straight outta his house. And, this time, he hit us with the wings. Also an upcoming contender in RVA Wing Wars, Kwam’s homemade rub and brine (to which he says, “It’s all about the brine”) gives his chicken the perfect marrying of a good piece of chicken—great seasoning to the center and phenomenal crunch. Served up with some great sauce and a crispy hashbrown, if you blink, you’ll miss where you can snag his next exclusive pop-up.

Wumami
Featured recently in The Richmond Seen, Chef Haus has been cranking out specialty menu items at his residency at The Savory Grain but also in and around the city. His smash burger (“The Street Smash”) and Wumami wings in his signature rub (which will be competing in this year’s RVA Wing Wars) are the highlights of his exclusive menu, which also includes tender braised oxtails with a side of buttery pineapple rice, and a beautiful curry-spiced purple cabbage.
