The Port Oysteria & Brewery, alongside Executive Chef Charles, is bringing a unique Creole-inspired menu in honor of Juneteenth, with a special event with live music on June 11th, starting at 7pm.
This month, Richmond’s own Chef Charles is bringing his unmistakable talent and heart to The Port Oysteria & Brewery with a Creole-inspired menu in honor of Juneteenth. Known for his bold, soulful flavors and a deep connection to the culture of the kitchen, Chef Charles first made waves on our pages when he transformed his kitchen into a show venue, performing a full album alongside a live band — a performance that captured the spirit of food as both art and community.
Now, he returns with a menu that’s equal parts tradition and innovation, diners a chance to gather, celebrate, and support one of our city’s most creative culinary voices.

"I wanted to highlight the connection between French cuisine, how I was classically trained, and the soul of African foodways," says Chef Charles. "During enslavement, our ancestors were dropped off in different places, but wherever we landed, we carried our traditions, our spices, and our ingredients with us. Okra, for example, wasn’t native here. We brought that over. This menu is about honoring those African roots within Creole and French traditions, and making sure we celebrate the Africanism that lives on in these flavors."
Pull up to The Port next Wednesday, June 11 at 7PM for an evening of Creole-inspired food, music by Control The Room, and flavors that carry stories.
