RICHMOND, Va — For more than two decades, the Happily Natural Festival has brought Richmond together at the intersection of culture, agriculture, wellness, music and community.

Founded by Duron and Nikiya Chavis, Happily Natural returns for its 23rd year, continuing a tradition that has grown into one of Richmond’s longest-running grassroots celebrations of Black culture and community.

Happily Natural Festival (2025)

This year’s festival takes place next Saturday, August 29 at the Fifth District Mini Farm, 2227 Wise Street, with a full day of vendors, workshops, music, food and community programming. The festival is free and open to the public, with programming beginning at 11 a.m.

The celebration extends beyond Saturday’s main event. Happily Natural will also host its Black Farm Tour on Friday, August 28, connecting attendees with Black growers and agricultural spaces, followed by the Another Black & Beautiful Brunch on Sunday, August 30 at Sankofa Community Orchard, featuring Sa-Roc.

The Richmond Seen is also joining this year’s celebration with The Richmond Seen Takeover, a musical set beginning at 5 p.m. featuring Richmond artists LBE Hunt, ShaelaSoul, O-Z and Sam Reed.

Happily Natural’s commitment to agriculture, art, wellness and preserving Black culture mirrors the kind of Richmond stories The Seen was created to document and amplify.

Twenty-three years in, Happily Natural remains more than a festival. It is a community tradition built around reconnecting people to land, culture, creativity and one another.
