Oblivious Utopias Extended Through October 18 at SCAG
by Eric Jackson
As one of the contributing sponsors of Southside Contemporary Art Gallery & Ubiquitous Utopias, we find it crucial to highlight that Oblivious Utopias, the debut solo exhibit by Richmond producer and now publicly known, collagist Coppere Ford, has officially been extended through October 18.
Ford, who recently presented “A Tribe Called Stress” at the Affordable Art Fair in NYC, continues his multidimensional exploration of texture, and memory through collage. Oblivious Utopias is co-curated by Rosetta and Nigel Richardson, and invites viewers into a world where ancestral energy, Black futurism, and fragmented realities coexist.

To mark the final lap of this utopian journey, a closing reception will be held on October 18 from 7–10 PM, featuring a live beat set from Hip Hop vet and producer Nickelus F, alongside 80404 Club’s own Swellthy. This event is free and open to the public, continuing SCAG's commitment to accessible, community-rooted art experiences.
Ford’s work moves between spiritual symbolism and social commentary, blending historical materials, fashion iconography, and hand-cut elements into layered conversations on Black identity, politics, and the personal.
As Richmond continues to evolve as a hub for Black expression, Oblivious Utopias is both a celebration and a blueprint.
