A 4/20 Celebration of Good Vibes, Good Food, and Green Spaces

On an incredibly warm and breezy afternoon – it was more hot than anything – Down 2 Earth brought out the best parts of Richmond with good food, great music, and even better community. Presented by All Out of Gas in collaboration with The Richmond Seen, the event was a relaxing, easy going, and feel-good kick-off to the season.

Held on the 5-acre beautiful Sankofa Community Orchard, we were welcomed by Duron Chavis, who opened his doors (and his garden gates) to create space for community building and celebration.

The Richmond Seen handled grill duties, serving up hot dogs alongside cold beers sponsored by Ardent Craft Ales. Vibes were provided by DJ Melodic, who set the perfect tone — relaxed, sunny, and just vibey enough to remind everyone that summer was right around the corner.

Despite the heat, the energy remained positive. The team made sure to provide plenty of water for guests, and the sense of appreciation from the crowd was evident — especially when it came to the food. While much of the action happened around the orchard, The Richmond Seen’s Eric Jackson spent most of the afternoon on the grill, tending to hot dogs and ensuring everyone stayed fed. “The love was awesome,” Jackson noted later. “Everybody was really appreciative, and it was just one of those days where people showed up for each other.

The 4/20 Easter Egg Hunt organized by All Out of Gas attracted almost 60 adults who roamed the orchard searching for Easter eggs filled with surprises that helped keep everyone’s spirits lifted.

As the evening rolled in, Caribbean food from Daddy Chisolm filled the air with incredible flavors, and small groups gathered in every corner of the orchard — laughing, sharing stories, and just being present.

It was one of those rare Richmond evenings where you could feel the ease settle over everybody — no big agenda, no big performances — just people, plants, and the pulse of the city’s ground up wellness and green culture.

Down 2 Earth is just getting started. Stay tuned for more gatherings where the vibe is simple: connect, cultivate, and celebrate.
